So, you’re a wedding vendor who wants to enter the luxury wedding market. This is a huge step for your wedding business! It means you’re ready to raise your prices, fill your books, and be taken seriously by your clients. I’m so excited for you!

But BE WARNED. The luxury wedding industry requires a completely different set of social media strategies. This blog post is dedicated to the top 5 mistakes I see luxury wedding vendors make that leave their social media accounts feeling less than luxurious.

If you’re in the luxury wedding market and have been making these mistakes, it’s okay! You can’t know unless someone teaches you. And today, I’m that someone.

Hi! I’m Sarah. I’m a social media marketing strategist and coach - exclusively for wedding businesses. That’s right! I only work with wedding planners, photographers, videographers, venues, florists, etc. If you’re in the wedding industry, you’re my kind of person. Learn more about me here.

Before we jump in, there’s one this you need to understand about the luxury wedding industry. As a high-end wedding vendor, the couple is not your only client. The WEDDING PLANNER is also your client and needs to be treated as such! In fact, the wedding planner should be the first person you communicate with, the first person you send updates, questions, and content to, etc.

Okay, hopefully, you’ve got that down. Now we can examine 5 common social media mistakes you probably don’t even know you’re making.

5 Social Media Mistakes To Avoid as a Luxury Wedding Vendor

1. Posting On Instagram Without Communicating With the Wedding Planner

Here’s the deal: in the luxury wedding industry, weddings almost always have a planner. The wedding planner is your go-to person. Chances are, you won’t be communicating with the couple very much. The planner takes care of all the day-to-day needs.

So if you have professional or behind-the-scenes photos from a recent wedding, you must communicate with the wedding planner before you post any content from that day! Working with high-end couples means a new set of rules. Often, luxury wedding couples will have NDAs, and the planner will be the best person to talk to about this.

Plus, you can use this as an opportunity to create a posting strategy with the wedding planner!

2. Not Tagging Everyone From a Wedding

This should be a rule for every collaborative event, luxury or otherwise. It’s simply good etiquette.

The best way to tag the other vendors from a wedding in an Instagram post is by outlining who they are in the comments. You can only tag 20 accounts in a post, and to be honest, it is far easier to see who is who in the caption.

When you post about a wedding, triple-check that all the vendors are tagged. It’s important to show that you pay attention to who’s there and value their work.

3. Not Giving Content to the Wedding Planner

As I mentioned earlier, wedding planners are your go-to in the luxury wedding industry. They are your point man. And they are your CLIENT, too!

Whether you’re a photographer, videographer, florist, designer, caterer, etc - if you have content (like sneak peeks, BTS, or preview videos), send it to the planner. They are your first priority.

4. Not Having a Professional, Polished Feed

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. The way your feed looks is not the most important thing, but it is still important!

If a high-end client finds you on the Explore page and clicks on your profile, what will they see? A cohesive brand with high-quality photos that demonstrate your level of expertise? Or a hodgepodge of random photos that make you look like an amateur?

You need to display the content that your ideal client wants. If your feed doesn’t fit your ideal luxury client, wedding planners are less likely to work with you.

Pro Tip: Are you struggling to book luxury clients because your content doesn’t look high-end, yet you don’t know how to level up your content? It’s time to invest in a styled shoot! Styled shoots are intentionally designed events with models you can pay to attend and grab photos, videos, and BTS of gorgeous weddings. Plus, you get to meet other wedding vendors in your area!

5. Annoying Wedding Planners in the DMs

It can be tempting to reach out to every high-end wedding planner that you see on social media. But I promise you, pushy, sales DM pitches are not the way to make it in the industry.

Instead, be authentic and support the planners you admire by sharing their content - no strings attached. If there is a planner you really want to work with, offer one of your services for free. Offer filming a short video, or doing the bride’s makeup, for a chance to work alongside them.
